Kissing A Porcupine

One of my first jobs out of high school was working for a sanitation company.

Oh boy. What a shitty job…

I learned messy lessons while wiping stations clean.

Especially about clear communication and respect.

You see, the sanitation company had a bully take full advantage of my vulnerability.

It all started when my boss sent me out on a job and deliver materials to a construction site.

Little did I know that this job turned from 3 hours… to 15 hours of running to all outer city work sites!

I later found out this bully swapped work orders and piled on his work to me.

Yep… I felt like a complete sucker.

After all the doodies were complete, I looked at my wristwatch. Omg… it’s midnight!

And the cherry on top of this shit cake, no one from the office called in to check in on me.

It’s an innocent joke at first… but after a few weeks, I realize this wasn’t going away. This job is allowing others to stab my energy and respect!

Yep. I was kissing a porcupine!

Innocent at glance, but deadly when I moved in too fast!

My mental and physical health is on the line. So I made the move and quit after weeks of the abuse.

It was time to leave and lick my wounds all the way back home.

Messy lessons of life.

We all go through a “kiss the porcupine” phase in life.

The key is to know when to leave shitty relationship – job, dating, or friend.

Stop wishing for a better kiss and move to bigger and better opportunities.
